Artist Talk by painter Geraldine O’Neill

Poetry students were intrigued by the work of artist Geraldine O’Neill last week when the painter gave a fascinating lecture on her work and art practice. Recently and deservedly elected an ARHA, O’Neill is a technically brilliant artist. We are looking forward to welcoming Geraldine back to Belvedere College S.J. very soon. She is a truly inspirational artist!

Batik Workshop with artist Hugh Mullen

Rudiments students were introduced to the art of Batik by Mr. Hugh Mullen in a recent workshop held in the Art room. Batik is both an art and a craft, and it is a wonderfully creative medium. The art of decorating cloth in this way, using wax and dye, has been practised for centuries. In Java, Indonesia, batik is part of an ancient tradition, and some of the finest batik cloth in the world is still made there. Many thanks to Hugh for this very interesting demonstration.

Senior Students Gallery Visit

Rhetoric and Poetry Students visited Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane this week to study the work of three major Irish artists; Harry Clarke, Francis Bacon and Sean Scully.

Harry Clarke went to school here at Belvedere College. ‘Harry Clarke (1889 to 1931) was undoubtedly Ireland’s greatest stained glass artist. Internationally the name of Harry Clarke is synonymous with quality craftsmanship and imaginative genius in his stained glass work’. http://www.harryclarke.net/

Please find information on these artists here; http://www.hughlane.ie/
